Davis author to speak on the threat of climate change
Kim Stanley Robinson will talk Tuesday as part of a speaker series
Local author Kim Stanley Robinson is scheduled to speak Tuesday to kickstart the Davis Climate Speaker Series.
Robinson is a New York Times best-selling fiction writer. He will be sharing his thoughts on climate change, and his new book, “The Ministry for the Future.”
Robinson is a climate fiction author, and “The Ministry for the Future” focuses on the “urgent threat of climate change and the loss of biodiversity on our earth,” according to a statement Leslie Crenna with Cool Davis.
Robinson’s book also mentions solutions to fight the ongoing threat of climate change. He will provide the audience with suggestions for Yolo County on how to deal with the threat.
Registration is required in order to receive the event link, along with a postevent link. The speech is free, but Cool Davis is asking for donations, according to Crenna, to “cover costs to host the event and to help Cool Davis and partners carry out their mission.”
Hardcover copies of “The Ministry of the Future” can be purchased at The Avid Reader Bookstore in-store or online. The Avid Reader will be donating 20% of sales of Robinson’s book to Cool Davis, and each purchase will come with an author-signed bookplate up until Tuesday.
Tuesday’s event will be hosted by Davis Friends Meeting, the Yolo Interfaith Alliance for Climate Justice, and Cool Davis. Robinson’s speech will begin at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a Q&A. Visit CoolDavis.org to register
Robinson is the first of many speakers in the Davis Climate Speaker Series, which will continue throughout 2021, and will address topics such as capitalism, California fires and the Green New Deal.
