Driver involved in crash that killed two charged with murder
Gabriel Rhythm Poletti is accused of being under the influence at the time of the crash
The man accused of causing a West Sacramento crash that killed two has been charged with murder by the Yolo County District Attorney.
Gabriel Rhythm Poletti, a 27-year-old resident of Elk Grove, was arrested Tuesday for his involvement in the crash, according to the West Sacramento Police Department’s Facebook page.
The DA’s Office alleges that Poletti had been under the influence when his vehicle collided with another vehicle carrying four passengers — a mother and a father and their two children. One parent was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was pronounced dead in hospital. The two children were taken to the hospital for minor to moderate injuries.
Poletti was hospitalized after the collision with “serious injuries.”
Poletti, who has a prior
DUI conviction, has been charged in Yolo County with multiple crimes, including two counts of murder with enhancements for infliction of great bodily injury, and infliction of great bodily injury to a child under 5 years old.
He is also facing two charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated with a prior DUI conviction along with the above enhancements and causing injury or death to multiple victims.
The DA’s Office stated that Poletti had a blood alcohol content over .15%. The legal limit for a DUI is .08%.
In California, if a person who has already been convicted of a DUI commits a second one that results in the death of a person, they can be charged with murder, according to the DA.
Poletti is being held in the Yolo County Jail without bail. He is set to be arraigned Friday at 1:30 in Department 1.
