West Sacramento police arrest second suspect
Annette Womack, 58, was arrested in connection to the murder case on Friday morning.
Police have made a second arrest in relation to the death of a one-year-old girl who was found in a West Sacramento motel earlier this month.
Annette Womack, 58, was arrested in connection to the murder case on Friday morning, according to a post on the West Sacramento Police Department Facebook page. The department identified Womack
as the mother of suspect Derek Woods, who was arrested as a suspect in the case last week.
Womack was booked into the Yolo County Jail on charges of felony aiding and abetting and child endangerment.
Woods, a 43-year-old resident of Sacramento, was charged by the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office with murder with a special circumstance for inflicting torture in the commission of the murder, assault on a child under eight with force likely to produce great bodily injury resulting in death and abusing or endangering the health of a child with an enhancement for infliction of great bodily injury upon a child under five during the commission of a felony.
Woods pleaded not guilty to all charges through his attorney during his arraignment on last week.
“As charged, this is a capital case, but no decision has been made on the penalty that we would seek should Mr. Woods be convicted on all qualifying charges,” District Attorney Jeff Reisig said in a video press release.
In the video, Reisig explains that two children were found at a motel — identified as Silvey’s Motel along the 1000 block of West Capitol Avenue — on Monday. The children were identified as a 3-yearold boy named Elijah and a 16-month-old girl named Amanda. The children’s last names were not provided.
Elijah was severely injured, and Amanda died from her injuries.
Woods was reported to have ran from the scene, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On Tuesday, the warrant was executed in Sacramento with collaboration from the West Sacramento Police Department, the Yolo County Sheriff’s Department and Sacramento District Attorney’s Investigators.
Woods is due back in court for a pre-hearing conference on April 2. He is currently being held on no bail in the Yolo County Jail.
