Resource Conservation District to hold a second Fire Safe Council meeting
The Yolo County Resource Conservation District will host the second meeting of the Yolo County Fire Safe Council next week.
Fire Safe Councils are “community-led organizations that mobilize residents to protect their homes, community and environments from catastrophic wildfire,” according to a statement from the Yolo County Resource Conservation District.
The meeting will feature community leaders from the Green Valley Fire Safe Council in Solano County and the Berryessa Highlands Fire Safe Council in Napa County.
These leaders will share their experience with starting and running their own Fire Safe Councils. Experts from the California Fire Safe Council will also be available to answer questions.
The formation of the Yolo County Fire Safe Council is an effort being supported by the Yolo County Office of Emergency Services and led by the Yolo County Resource Conservation District with funding from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
The key stakeholders in this project include local government, Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, County Service Areas, agencies, utilities, first responders, local organizations and interested members of the public from Yolo and neighboring counties.
The Fire Safe Council was formed after the LNU Complex Fire in order to communicate and collaborate on supporting wildfire preparedness and prevention.
Through Cal Fire, the State of California has authorized $573 million dollars in funding for wildfire response and resiliency, including hazardous fuel reduction, fire prevention planning and education.
The Yolo County Fire Safe Council will be applying for and administering funds for these projects.
The meeting will be held via Zoom on March 24 at 3 p.m.
