The lifting of coronavirusrelated restrictions has come as a relief for many who have been eager to see family and friends, but that relief might be short-lived once the realization of gifts for birthdays, weddings and any other inperson events in the near future starts to sink in.

Luckily, with the opening of Embellish Decor & Gifts on 540 Main Street, Woodland residents now have a place to find meaningful and thoughtful gifts for nearly any occasion.

“We hope that we fill a need for ,” owner Becci Roncoroni said. “I want people to come in here and feel comfortable and ask for a specific item if I don’t carry it. I’m here to serve the community.”

Roncoroni said the store officially opened June 4 and that she’s been overwhelmed by the new customers who say they love the vibe of the store and the diverse items she carries.

She said she expected her regular customers — from a sublet she temporarily ran for a couple of months starting November of last year with the same concept — would support her, but she’s been pleasantly surprised by the increased community interest.

“It just makes me feel good to see people come in and see them laughing,” Roncoroni said. “That’s why I have the sofa and the tables, to create a comfortable space.”

Roncoroni said that opening her own store has given

her a sense of pride and freedom to explore different items she otherwise wouldn’t have been able to. She said that there was a need for a store like this in this town, especially coming out of the pandemic.

“We’ve been spending so much time at home,” she said. “I love to give gifts, so what better store for me to have than one that carries gift items.”

Roncoroni moved from Long Beach to Woodland when she was a teenager in 1983.

“When I was 17, of course, I couldn’t wait to get out,” she recalled. “But now that I’m older and have a family, I love the community.”

Roncoroni said she’s been a very active member in the community, having served as a PTA president and treasurer for eight years and a volunteer at the police department and local sports agencies. Roncoroni also served

on the school site council and different committees at the Woodland School District, setting up carnivals and raising money for field trips.

Roncoroni has three kids with the youngest having just graduated high school. She wants to show her kids that it’s never too late to follow their dreams.

“This has been a vision for a long time,” Roncoroni emphasized. “The most important thing that I want to come out of this is to show my kids that you’re never too old or it’s never too late to pursue something that you have in your heart.”

Her dream of opening this store was a challenge, but doing so during such uncertain times when businesses were struggling for so many reasons wasn’t much of a worry for Roncoroni.

Roncoroni’s husband was supportive when she proposed the idea to him, but that he had to ask, “you know we’re in a pandemic right now, right?”

“Rather than that stopping me, I think that propelled me,” Roncoroni explained.

The time of her store’s opening would prove to be in favor of her business as well with restrictions loosening due to significant decreases in the occurrence of COVID-19 in California.

“Reopening at this time honestly is just a coincidence,” she stated. “We had no forethought that things would be relaxing, so it’s just kind of falling into place.”

Now that the store is open, Roncoroni said she deals with over 25 vendors to source all of the products in her store with jewelry coming from a Seattle-based jeweler Roncoroni said creates heartfelt pieces and journals from a company that creates inspirational and personal items.

“We’ve all been separated and digitally engaged over the past year and a half,” she said. “Now that things are relaxing a bit with COVID, my hope is that when someone is looking for a personal gift, they’ll think of Embellish Decor & Gifts.”

Asked about gift-giving advice, Roncoroni responded she hopes her store inspires customers to put more effort into selecting gifts for people.

“Sometimes I think we buy what we want someone to have rather than what the person would find pleasure in,” she concluded. “Instead of getting a gift card, come in and take a look around and see if you find anything that inspires you.”
