City of Woodland releases video commemorating 150th anniversary
The city of Woodland released its second video to commemorate the city’s 150th anniversary highlighting the city’s reputation as a farming community.
The video features three members of the community that each offer different perspectives on agriculture and how Woodland has impacted it.
Sherri Wood, owner of Capay Valley Lavender, is new to farming but said she visits Woodland frequently because it’s such a hub for agriculture.
“There have been times when I visit Woodland three times in one day because I need supplies, I need irrigation, I need nutrients,” Wood emphasized. “It’s another place where I can also say to people, ‘I need your help,’ and they’re knowledgeable and helpful.”
Seth Bridges, a partner at American International Manufacturing, said the company sells equipment all over the world now.
The company specializes in food and nut processing equipment and has been doing so since the company was founded in 1973 in Woodland, according to Bridges.
“We’re established here and our customer base is here,” Bridges said regarding Woodland. “We have our name out there, not just in Woodland and Yolo County, but we do stuff all over California and the United States and we have equipment all over the world now.”
Jerry Delsol, an agriculture teacher at Woodland High School, highlighted the importance of community gardens and how they can be used to teach and empower students.
“We have an opportunity to teach 35 to 38 students every year in this garden,” Delsol explained. “The reason that we have this is because the community has said this is important to us and it’s important that we have our children take that and move it to the next generation.”
The video is available at the City of Woodland’s Facebook page and will be posted on celebratewoodland.org
