Records Specialist Chavez
Chavez was born and raised in Woodland. She is the second of three daughters and graduated from Woodland High School in 2001.
Chavez started working for Empower Yolo (formerly known as the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Center) in November 2002 as a receptionist and a crisis counselor. After a few years, she began to assist with the Batterer’s Intervention Program.
While assisting, Chavez gained experience in preparing the necessary reports needed by the courts, providing clients with the documentation they may need on their progress, and working closely with the Yolo County Probation Department, Woodland Parole Unit, and the Yolo Day Reporting Center.
In 2014, Chavez transitioned into the Legal Department as a Bilingual Legal Advocate. While in the Legal Department, she assisted victims with filling out an application for a temporary domestic violence restraining order.
Chavez got her first law enforcement experience when she became the inhouse Domestic Violence Advocate at the Davis Police Department, the Winters Police Department, and the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office in 2015.
In this position, she received all the reports that had to do with domestic violence. She made weekly visits to each agency and was able to meet with clients in a secure and confidential area. Mariana was also called out by the police departments on several occasions and provided assistance for victims in immediate crisis.
Chavez is married to her husband, Fernando, and they have three kids. She enjoys traveling with her family and taking the classic cars out for a drive in her free time.
