Sweater and Blanket Drive begins

- Staff report Contact Catherine Diaz in Supervisor Barajas’ office for additional information.

Yolo County is encouraging the public to ensure that the homeless stay warm during the winter as we kick off a Sweater and Blanket Drive from now until Nov. 25. Donations will benefit the homeless of Yolo County and be distributed at the Fourth & Hope shelter in Woodland.

The Fourth & Hope emergency shelter provides year-round shelter nightly, serving as the designated shelter for Yolo County. Fourth & Hope provides shelter services to men, women and children. Separate dorms are provided for men and women, families sleep together in the dining area.

“I am excited to announce the collaboration my colleagues on the Board of Supervisors, County employees, and Fourth & Hope to voluntarily collect items for our homeless residents,” District 5 Supervisor Angel Barajas, said. “With winter almost here, now is the time for all of us to spring into action and provide a helping hand for those in great need.”

Barajas is leading the organization of the drive and has previously volunteered at Fourth & Hope in past years. The drive will not only keep the homeless in need warm but also warm and inspire our hearts to give back this holiday season.

“Yolo County winters see temperatures drop to as cold as 20 or 30 degrees, disproportionately impacting our homeless,” Barajas said. “Together, we can offer comfort and thanks during the holidays with donations of sweaters, blankets, socks and more.”
