• The Center for Land-Based Learning will be holding its Mobile Farmers Market Launch event Sunday, June 4 in West Sacramento.

“Come hand out and celebrate the start of a new season, grab your produce, listen to some tunes and enjoy a perfect summery morning in The Bridge District,” the event's website stated.

The 9:30 a.m. to noon launch will be held outside of Franquette — located at 985 Bridge St. — and will feature yoga by Doma Studios, music and flowers by Wholehearted Blooms.

If interested in attending, reservations can be made by visiting thebridgedistrict.com/ event/mobile-market-launch.

The mobile market was launched in June 2021 as part of the center's Urban Farm Program.

Heather Lyon, coordinator for the program, explained that the program strives to add culturally inclusive produce to better serve the city's diverse community.

“A lot of our customers are from Afghanistan, a lot are from Eastern Europe,” Lyon said in a January interview. “One of the things we're trying to do is work with them and then work with our sponsors to identify vegetables or fruits that they would like to have access to that are important to them culturally.”

Lyon highlighted that the center's farmers will then grow these fruits and vegetables so that they can have them available on the truck.

“I think a really fun part of the truck is, as we're getting to know the community, it's becoming more culturally diverse with all kinds of produce, especially from the Middle East,” she emphasized.
