Warrant arrest

On Jan. 30 at 1:30 p.m., an officer located a wanted suspect, 39-year-old Woodland resident Jeffery Card. Card was driving a vehicle on Ashley Avenue near Porter Street. Card had a felony warrant for his arrest. The officer attempted a traffic stop of the vehicle and Card failed to yield to the officer. Card exited the vehicle near Porter Street and ran into a residential neighborhood on Inyo Place. Officers learned that Card was likely armed and possibly intended to harm himself or officers. Officers located handgun ammunition and two handguns in the path Card had exited the vehicle.

A perimeter was set up and the Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) was notified due to the proximity of Maxwell and Greengate Schools. Maxwell School was locked down due to the risk to public safety at the time. An officer spotted Card on the roof of a residence. Woodland officers started trying to communicate with Card asking him to surrender. Card refused to surrender and over the next few hours, family members and friends arrived trying to talk him into surrendering. Members of the Yolo County Regional Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) arrived and took over the inner perimeter. Card jumped onto several residential rooftops while continuing his refusal to surrender. At 5:30p.m., Card gave up and came down off of the residence where he was taken into custody without further incident. Card was eventually booked into the Yolo County Jail for resisting/delaying officers, evading, prohibited persons in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen vehicle and the warrant he was initially contacted for.
