The John Natsoulas Gallery will have two new exhibitions opening April

10.

“The Ego Diaries” is a collection of reaction drawings on art magazine covers from artist Arthur

González.

“In looking at magazine covers, the existing imagery (or lack thereof) spurred me on to concoct a new reality by adding my own imagery in a hybrid figure/ground relationship that would never have happened otherwise,” González said in his artist statement. “This became a regular pursuit as I searched literally for pictorial negative spaces in magazine covers, often creating a solution to an art idea that was now resolved through the unknowing collaborations of this month's `Chosen One.'”

“The Ego Diaries” will be on display until May 11.

The John Natsoulas Gallery will also be holding its 37th annual gallery-wide 30 Ceramics Sculptors exhibition in concurrence with the California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Arts (CCACA). The exhibition will run from April 10th t0 May 11th, 2024.

First conceived in 1986, this show started as a collaboration between the late Robert Arneson and John Natsoulas,

and continues the ceramic traditions made famous by instructors and students of the University of California, Davis Art Department and the University of California, Berkeley.

“30 Ceramic Sculptors is the largest annual exhibition of ceramic artists where you can see every variation of ceramic sculpture imaginable,” said John Natsoulas' website. “This survey of ceramic sculptors includes everything from figurative to abstract, monolithic to miniature all in one place. The 37th annual 30 Ceramic Sculptors brings together an impressive group of ceramic artists with practices rooted in diverse cultures, experiences and education from around the world.”

The opening reception will be held April 12 at 7 p.m. The exhibit will be on display until May 11.

The Davis Musical Theatre Company will be holding auditions for Disney's “The Little Mermaid” on Sunday, April 28 or Monday, April 29.

“The bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea,” said DMTC's website. “Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's `The Little Mermaid' is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. This fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including `Under the Sea,' `Kiss the Girl' and `Part of Your World.'
