Reba Elizabeth (Betty) Eighmey, 98, passed away Sunday, Feb. 1, 2015, at Golden Hill Nursing and Rehabilita­tion Center in Kingston.

Mrs. Eighmey was born in Japan on March 28, 1916, the daughter of the late Stephen W. and Reba Snapp Ryder, lived in Japan until the age of 13, and moved to Kingston.

Betty was a graduate of Kingston High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Arcadia College in Pa. She was active in her community as a volunteer. She sang with the Kingston Alumni Choir, and was a longtime member of the YWCA in Kingston. She ran the Thrift Shop at the YWCA and was honored as Woman of the Year. She served with the RSVP program of Ulster County, and was a den mother with the Boy Scouts of America. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Shady, The Kings Daughters and the Ladies Auxiliary of Woodstock Fire Co. No. 3 in Lake Hill.

Mrs. Eighmey was predecease­d by her husband, Henry P. Eighmey; a brother, Stephen Ryder; and sister, Carolyn Villava.

Surviving are her sons, David of Fairhaven, Vt., H. Phillips of Lake Hill and Douglas Eighmey of West Hurley; five grandchild­ren; three great-grandchild­ren; and nieces.

Friends will be received Friday, Feb. 13, 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Feb. 14, 2 to 3 p.m., at Lasher Funeral Home Inc., 100 Tinker St., Woodstock. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Woodstock Cemetery.

A memorial service will be announced in the spring at the church in Shady.
