No. 4 Duke avenges earlier loss to No. 10 Notre Dame

DURHAM, N.C. >> Justise Winslow had 19 points and 11 rebounds, and No. 4 Duke used a huge early run to rout No. 10 Notre Dame 9060 on Saturday.

Fellow freshman Jahlil Okafor added 20 points and 10 rebounds. Matt Jones added a career-high 17 points off the bench and Tyus Jones scored 12 for the Blue Devils (20-3, 7-3 Atlantic Coast Conference).

They shot 61 percent — 81 percent in the first half — and used an early 43-7 run to give Notre Dame (214, 9-3) its worst loss since 1999.

Steve Vasturia had 15 points but top scorer Jerian Grant was held to just seven on 3-of-10 shooting for the Fighting Irish, who won the previous meeting 77-73 on Jan. 28. NO. 7

VILLANOVA 69, NO. 24 GEORGETOWN 53 >> Darrun Hilliard scored 15 points and Josh Hart had 13 to help No. 7 Villanova avenge its worst game of the season with a victory over No. 24 Georgetown on Saturday.

The Hoyas thumped the Wildcats (21-2, 8-2 Big East) by 20 in the first game on Jan. 19. In the second matchup of the longtime conference rivals, the Wildcats raced to a 17-point lead and never looked back in their fourth straight win. They’ve won eight of nine and have played up to their billing as the preseason Big East favorite.

Villanova upset Georgetown in the 1985 national championsh­ip game and wore ‘85 throwback uniforms for a game that featured selected highlights from that “Perfect Game” playing on the big screen.

The Wildcats made a few more for this season’s reel. Hilliard and Dylan Ennis hit consecutiv­e 3s for a 12-7 lead that sparked the rout.

L.J. Peak scored 15 points for the Hoyas (15-8, 7-5). With losses this week to Providence and Villanova, the Hoyas are sure to fall out of the Top 25.

OKLAHOMA STATE 67, NO. 8 KANSAS 62 >> Le’Bryan Nash scored 18 points to help Oklahoma State upset No. 8 Kansas on Saturday.

Oklahoma State trailed by 11 at halftime, but the Cowboys held the Jayhawks to 27 percent shooting in the second half. Oklahoma State students stormed the court after beating the Jayhawks at home for the second straight year.

Anthony Hickey added 15 points for the Cowboys (16-7, 6-5 Big 12), who were coming off a win over No. 25 Texas on Wednesday. Phil Forte, Oklahoma State’s leading scorer for the season, had flu-like symptoms and was limited to 29 minutes. He finished with 13 points.

Oklahoma State beat a ranked opponent at home for the third time this season and improved to 11-2 at Gallagher-Iba Arena. Wayne Selden, Jr. scored 15 points, and Perry Ellis, Frank Mason II and Brannen Greene each added 10 points for the Jayhawks (19-4, 8-2), who had won five straight.

NO. 11 IOWA STATE 75, TEXAS TECH 58 >> Jameel McKay scored 17 points on 7-for-7 shooting in his first start and keyed a strong defensive effort that carried No. 11 Iowa State to a victory over Texas Tech on Saturday.

It was a sharp turnaround for the Cyclones (17-5, 7-3 Big 12) from their surprising 78-73 loss at Tech two weeks earlier, a game in which they fell behind 29-10. Iowa State bolted ahead 29-8 in this one and was never challenged in winning for the 20th straight time at home.

Naz Long added 15 points for Iowa State, which shot 56 percent and allowed its fewest points of the season to a Big 12 opponent .

Toddrick Gotcher led Tech with 11 points, all but two in the first half.

NO. 19 BAYLOR 87, NO. 15 WEST VIRGINIA 69 >> Rico Gathers had 17 points and 16 rebounds, and No. 19 Baylor used a strong start to beat No. 15 West Virginia on Saturday.

Gathers earned his 12th double-double of the season. Royce O’Neale and Taurean Prince added 15 points apiece for Baylor (18-5, 6-4 Big 12).

The Bears jumped ahead by 22 points in the first half and cruised from there, leading by as many as 26 points in the second half. Baylor shot 55 percent from the floor.

Only a late 9-0 run helped the Mountainee­rs avoid the worst home loss in Bob Huggins’ eight seasons as their coach.

Devin Williams scored 20 points and Jevon Carter added 13 for West Virginia (18-5, 6-4), which has lost two straight for the first time this season.

ST. BONAVENTUR­E 73, NO. 18 VCU 71 >> Marcus Posley scooped in a six-footer off the backboard at the buzzer, lifting St. Bonaventur­e over injury-depleted No. 18 VCU on Saturday.

Posley finished with 15 points and Dion Wright scored 17 in a game that St. Bonaventur­e (13-8, 6-4 Atlantic 10) never trailed. It was the second consecutiv­e game Posley has beaten the buzzer.

On Wednesday, Posley went end-to-end in the final 5 seconds and scored on a layup to top Dayton 62-61.

Terry Larrier scored 15 points for VCU (18-5, 8-2), which lost for the second time in three games. The Rams were missing leading scorer Treveon Graham, who aggravated an ankle injury in a 72-60 win at George Mason on Wednesday. They’re also minus Briante Weber, who sustained a season-ending knee injury last weekend.
