Deputy dies of injuries in motorcycle crash
Kristopher Cuddeback, 23, was hospitalized after an April 28 off-duty accident in the town of North East.
A 23-year-old Dutchess County sheriff’s deputy has died of injuries he suffered in an off-duty motorcycle accident late last month, county Sheriff Adrian “Butch” Anderson said Wednesday.
Anderson announced the death of Kristopher Cuddeback, of Pine Plains, “with deep sadness and regret.” Cuddeback was seriously injured in a crash at about 3 p.m. April 28 on Winchell Mountain Road near Pulver Road in the town of North East, according to a press release from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office. Cuddeback was airlifted to Albany Medical Center, where he remained until his death on Tuesday, authorities said.
“Our hearts are heavy today following the loss of one of our own, Dutchess
County Sheriff Deputy Kris Cuddeback, a dedicated
public servant who dreamed of following in his father’s footsteps to serve the residents of Dutchess County as a Deputy Sheriff,” Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro said Wednesday. “We mourn a life cut too short, but are inspired by his passion to protect and serve our community. We pray for his family and for the entire Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office following this tragic loss. The dedication and courage of those in law enforcement inspires us all.”
A preliminary investigation by the Sheriff’s Office determined that Cuddeback lost control of a 2005 Suzuki motorcycle while headed east on Winchell Mountain Road. The motorcycle overturned and Cuddeback was thrown from the vehicle. The Sheriff’s Office’s Crash Investigation Unit concluded that unsafe speed was the primary factor in the accident.
Funeral services for Cuddeback were not finalized as of Wednesday afternoon.
