-

Lowell Thing, author of “The Street That Built a City: McEntee’s Chestnut Street, Kingston and the Rise of New York” will deliver a lecture and sign copies of his book on Wednesday, July 27, at 7 p.m. at the Riverport Wooden School at the Hudson River Maritime Museum, 50 Rondout Landing.

The book’s title refers to New York City and its contents deal with some of the people who lived on Chestnut Street and, in some way or another, contributed to its growth. As Thing said in an interview,

“The metropolis that New York City became in the 19th century required building materials and no other street in America provided more of those materials than Chestnut Street and its residents.”

A $5 donation is suggested. Museum members will be admitted free.

Call the museum at (845) 338-0071, ext. 15, or visit hrmm.org for more information.
