Annual livestock auction today at fair
The annual 4-H Livestock Sale will be held this afternoon at the Dutchess County Fair.
A buyers’ reception will start at 2 p.m., and the sale will begin at 4 p.m. in the Show Pavilion on Livestock Hill at the county fairgrounds.
The fairgrounds are on U.S. Route 9 in Rhinebeck, just north of the village center.
Youths who will participate in the sale are 4-H members who have raised their animals locally and completed all local 4-H program requirements.
Only animals that earned a blue ribbon during shows at the fair will be sold.
The sale will include steer, hogs, lambs, poultry, goats and rabbits.
Buyers will choose how to have their purchased livestock cut and processed, and a 4-H volunteer will bring each animal to a slaughter facility. Once the meat is ready, the 4-H member from whom each animal was purchased will bring the meat to the buyer’s home.
Each buyer also will receive a complimentary ticket to next year’s fair.
