Eye on consumers

American consumers have been feeling confident about current economic conditions but more wary about the future.

Consumer confidence was essentially unchanged in July, with business group The Conference Board’s monthly reading at 97.3, compared to 97.4 in June. The index includes consumers’ assessment of the economy now and what they expect over the next six months. The survey’s results for August are published on Tuesday.
