Dolores Mary Falatyn (neé Burns), 87, passed away peacefully and mercifully in her sleep at the home of her daughter, Lynn, in Coronado, Calif., in the early morning of Sept. 12, 2016.

Dolores was born in Kingston, N.Y., on March 21, 1929, the elder daughter of the late John F. and Mary V. (Sember) Burns, also of Kingston. She attended Immaculate Conception elementary school and graduated Kingston High School in 1947. Growing up on Murray Street in Kingston, Dolores spent many childhood days in Hasbrouck Park with close friends, Jacqueline (Christiana) Glaser and Helen (Mazdin) Shultis; Jacqueline passed on the same day as Dolores, and Helen predeceased them both by three weeks. Following high school and until her marriage, she worked at Hercules Powder Company in Port Ewen as executive secretary to the plant manager.

Dolores married Frank J. Falatyn, also of Kingston, on Sept. 29, 1956, and lived in Elmendorf Heights, Hurley, N.Y., for many years prior to moving to Coronado in 2014. Dolores and Frank were close friends with Helen and Anthony Pizzarelli, through the husbands’ partnership in the Ulster Tool and Die Corp. Dolores greatly enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S., Caribbean, Mexico, and Europe. For her 80th birthday, Dolores returned to Hawaii, her honeymoon destination, accompanied by her children and grandchildren.

Dolores’ life was animated by her Catholic faith. She was active in both the Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph’s Catholic churches. She taught Confraternity of Christian Doctrine religious classes at St. Joseph’s for 13 years, and ran the children’s prize booth at the Immaculate Conception annual bazaar. She was a devoted member of the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, the Legion of Mary, and became a professed member of the Order of Franciscan Seculars in 1982. With her friend Helen Antonovich of Hurley, N.Y., she did charitable work, visiting the elderly in area infirmaries and nursing homes. In addition, she generously supported many Catholic charities active with orphans and at-risk children, and was a volunteer for Ulster Literacy, helping adult immigrants.

Dolores and her husband Frank had five children: Frank Falatyn and his wife Roberta of Kingston, John Falatyn, deceased 2001, and his wife Patricia, presently of Phoenix, Ariz., Lynn Mishky and her husband Dr. Peter Mishky of Coronado, Calif., Dr. Stephen Falatyn of Allentown, Pa., and Peter Falatyn of Coronado, Calif. She was predeceased by her husband Frank (1987). Dolores had eight grandchildren: Jessica Falatyn (husband Richard Dale), Lauren Falatyn, Alexis Falatyn, all of Phoenix, Ariz., Michael Falatyn of New York, N.Y., Kyle Mishky, Zachary Mishky, Spencer Mishky, all of Coronado, Calif., and Robert Falatyn of Nazareth, Pa. Dolores leaves a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Ann Burns of Kingston; a sister and brother-in-law, Veronica and Harry Hutton of Estero, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Gail Burns of Wilmington, N.C.; five nieces and nine nephews, of whom Kathy Burns and Kelly Burns reside in Kingston.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Peter Burns, who died in a POW camp during the Korean War, and Robert Burns, and by two sisters-in-law through her marriage to Frank, Anna May Provenzano and Bernice Sickles.

The family is planning a memorial Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Coronado, Calif., on Nov. 12, 2016, and a funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Kingston in Spring 2017, to be followed by interment in the family plot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Funeral arrangements will be under the guidance of Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston (www.jvleahyfh. com).
