Catskill temple schedules High Holiday services

CATSKILL >> Temple Israel of Catskill, 220 Spring St., has scheduled the following High Holiday services:

• Oct. 2, Rosh Hashanah, evening service at 7:30 p.m.

• Oct. 3, Rosh Hashanah, morning service at 10 a.m. and children’s service at 2 p.m., with Tashlich at 3 p.m. (meet at temple).

• Oct. 11, Kol Nidre at 7:30 p.m.

• Oct. 12, Yom Kippur, morning service at 10 a.m., with Yizkor and concluding services at 5:15 p.m.

High Holy Day tickets are free for all members in good standing and their parents, children and grandchild­ren, children under the age of 22, college students, and all military families. In addition, Yizkor and concluding cervices are free and open to everyone in the community.

For non-members, High Holy Day tickets are $36 per person and are valid for all Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services. Tickets may be obtained by mailing the name(s) of the attendees, along with a check to Temple Israel of Catskill, P.O. Box 607, Catskill, N.Y. 12414. Tickets may also be obtained at the temple on Mondays from noon to 4 p.m.

There will be a Break

the Fast after the concluding service. Advance reservatio­ns are required and must be made before Tuesday, Oct. 4. The cost is $25 for adults and $10 for children ages 6-12. All children under 6 are free. To reserve a space, call (518) 945 3309 for reservatio­ns.

Hallelujah on the Hudson takes place Oct, 15

KINGSTON >> The Eighth Annual Hallelujah on the Hudson, organized by Living Word Chapel, will take place Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Robert Post Park, Ulster Landing Road.

The event was reschedule­d from August because of rain.

The event will feature music, food, children’s activities and a great day of fellowship with area churches of all denominati­ons. Those planning to attend are invited to bring a dish to share to go along with the hamburgers and hot dogs.

All donations will go to the chapel’s Friday Night Program, “Love In Action,” at the Everett Hodge Center in Kingston.

Church will hear from guest pastor on Oct. 2

NEW PALTZ >> The Rev. Christine Ransom will be the guest pastor at the New Paltz United Methodist Church, 1 Grove St., on Sunday, Oct. 2, for the 10:45 a.m. service.

Ransom is a graduate of Union Theologica­l Seminary and was ordained in the New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1976. She served as assistant pastor at Grace United Methodist Church in Newburgh and as pastor of the Reservoir United Methodist Churches in West Hurley, Glenford and Ashokan. She was also a co-pastor of the New Paltz United Methodist Church.

After 12 years in parish ministry, she earned a master’s degree in school counseling from The College of St. Rose in Albany. A longtime New Paltz resident, she has worked as a high school counselor in Kingston, Pine Bush and Cornwall for the past 25 years.

There will be an opportunit­y to visit with Ransom during a lunch after the service. Her appearance is part of the church’s 230th anniversar­y celebratio­n.

Red Hook church offers children’s program

RED HOOK >> A free children’s program, “Fun Fair,” will take place Thursdays throughout the school year from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Northern Dutchess Bible Church, 59 Fisk St.

The program is for children from kindergart­en through fifth grade.

“Fun Fair” will include play time, game time, refreshmen­ts, puppets, singing and story time. A new feature this year will be the puppet program, in which the children will learn to use profession­al-grade puppets to tell stories.

Children from Mill Road School may take bus No. 9 to the church after school, so parents should send a note to their children’s teachers requesting the bus change for Thursdays.

The church also offers other free programs to families in the community, in- cluding Youth Group for grades six through 12 and young adult sports.
