For the second year in a row, Rosendale Runs is offering a half marathon and the traditional 4.4mile Plains Run on Oct. 8.

The group resurrected the popular Plains Run, along with a 13.1-mile half marathon course, to help raise funds for the town’s Parks and Recreation program. Both races are challenging, and the half marathon features a spectacular course that travels on the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail, over the train trestle that extends 900 feet over the Rondout Creek. The course also winds through a jacko-lantern lit cave on the Williams Lake property. Everything gets underway at 8:30 a.m. with the start of the half marathon at the Rosendale Rec Center. That race route is combination of road and trail. At 9 a.m., the Plains Run kicks off on a course that is contested completely on the roads. Organizers are also offering a free kids fun run at 10 a.m. Entry fees are $55 for the half marathon, increasing to $65 on race day.For the Plains run, it costs $30 with race-day fee of $35. Spokesperson Lisa Jerkowski said she and the other members of the committee were hoping for another solid turnout.

The 2015 race had 170 finishers in the half marathon and another 111 in the Plains Run.
