Short-handed Rhinebeck records shutout victory

Elise Voorhis and Dani Amidon each scored their first varsity goal as a Rhinebeck High squad thinned by illness rolled past Pine Plains, 9-0, in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League soccer match Friday. Michelle Giamporton­e had two goals and four assists, Stephanie Cassens scored a goal and had two assists, and Caroline Voorhis and Marrissa Giamporton­e each added a goal. In addition, Libby Callahan added two assists and Amber Hoglin contribute­d an assist to lead the Hawks.

Rhinebeck’s Sarah Tobias had two saves, while Alex Coons had eight and Melissa Leach had seven for the Bombers. “We had a lot of contributi­ons today from JV players who were brought up to fill roster spots with much of my team under the weather,” Hawks Head Coach Matt Grande said. “It was Dani’s first time on the field as she’s been our starting goalie for three years, and she finally got the chance to put one in off of a beautiful volley fed to her by Michelle.” Ellenville 2, Webutuck 1

At Ellenville, the Blue Devils prevailed after holding the Warriors scoreless until the 79th minute.

After 46 minutes of scoreless play, JoAnna Craft, on a Carly Craft assist, put one in the net to give Ellenville a 1-0 edge. Genelle May, assisted by Alyssa Santiago, scored a goal in the 66th minute to give the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead.

Sofia Stefanopou­las scored (2-6, 2-6) Webutuck’s only goal 13 minutes later.

The (5-2, 5-2) Blue Devils held a 10-3 edge in shots on goal.

Vanely’s Mendez recorded two stops for Ellenville, while Laura Mendez had five for Webutuck. New Paltz, 5 Rondout Valley 0

At Kyserike, five different Huguenot players scored a goal as the visitors shutout the Ganders. Emily Denno, Cerissa DiValentin­o, Lia Kurcera, Erin Metzger and Anna McDuffie all scored goals for New Paltz.

Laurren Torres had four saves for the Huguenots, while Erin Clune had 12 for Rondout Valley. Marlboro 4, Highland 0

At Highland, Kali Schindler scored two goals in the first half and Hannah Sullivan added two in the second to lift Marlboro.

Hannah Schindler added an asssist on Kali Schindler’s second goal in the 40th minute.

Marlboro (4-4) led the (28) Huskies 15-3 in shots on goal.

Eliz Fino had three saves for the Iron Dukes, while Brianna Rozzi had 14 for Highland.

“The midfield did a great job of using both flanks to create numerous scoring chances,” Marlboro Head Coach Keith Walker said. “We are starting to put things back together as a team and are gaining confidence on the backs of our last three performanc­es.”
