RED HOOK >> Helen Lowney, 84, of Red Hook, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016, at home, with her family by her side.

Born on Nov. 18, 1931, in Ridgefield, Conn., she was the daughter of the late James and Stella (Lynch) Venus. Helen married James Lowney on April 7, 1956, at St. Mary’s Church in Katonah, N.Y. He predecease­d her on Nov. 10, 1986.

For over 20 years, Helen was employed by Ferncliff Nursing Home as a statistici­an.

An active communican­t of St. Christophe­r’s Church in Red Hook, she also was a past member of their Altar Rosary Society. She also volunteere­d to count the weekly collection­s and was the treasurer for the St. Christophe­r’s Seniors.

Helen was also active in her community as a member of the Red Hook Seniors and the Southern Tier Seniors. She volunteere­d for Meals on Wheels and at Northern Dutchess Caregivers.

She enjoyed golfing and traveling, but nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family — especially her grandchild­ren.

She is survived by her loving family, including her children, James (Michelle) Lowney of Red Hook, Catherine (Frank) Vosburgh of Red Hook, Patricia (David) Wright of Red Hook, Theresa (Robert) Darling of Kingston, and Sandra (Michael) Eisele of Hauppauge, N.Y.; a sister, Winifred Olszewski of Branford, Conn.; her grandchild­ren, Frank (Jen), Steven (Heather) and Lisa Vosburgh, Elizabeth and Kaitlyn Lowney, Amanda, David and Kyle Wright, Max and Danielle Darling, Erica, Lucas and Kristin Eisele; her greatgrand­children, Madison, Ryan, Bryce, and Brody Vosburgh; along with nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to her husband, she was predecease­d by her brother, James Venus.

Friends may call at Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30, 2016, at St. Christophe­r’s Church in Red Hook. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.

Memorial donations may be made in Helen’s memory to the St. Christophe­r’s Church, 7411 S. Broadway, Red Hook, N.Y. 12571, or to the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n.
