WHAT: Book pre­sen­ta­tion WHEN: Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. WHERE: Read­ing Room of the Greene County His­tor­i­cal So­ci­ety’s Ved­der Re­search Li­brary on the grounds of the Bronck Mu­seum, 90 county Route 42, Cox­sackie DE­TAILS: Shirley Dunn, noted re­gional his­to­rian, will present her newly pub­lished book, “Fort Crailo and the Van Rens­se­laers.” As the first Dutch farms take root east of the Hud­son River across from Fort Orange (Al­bany), a for­ti­fied farm­house was built by the Van Rens­se­laers to pro­tect their in­ter­ests and pro­vide a haven for set­tlers. Orig­i­nally sur­rounded by a tall wooden pal­isade, Fort Crailo sur­vived King Philip’s War, the French and In­dian wars, and the Rev­o­lu­tion. Signed copies of the book will be avail­able for pur­chase af­ter the pre­sen­ta­tion. The pro­gram is free and open to the pub­lic.
