Clear­wa­ter board has new pres­i­dent

For­mer Clear­wa­ter Capt. Betsy Garth­waite has been named pres­i­dent of Hud­son River Sloop Clear­wa­ter Board of Di­rec­tors.

Garth­waite took the helm Satur­day, suc­ceed­ing Anne Todd Os­born, who be­came board pres­i­dent in the fall of 2013.

Garth­waite is em­ployed as the fa­cil­i­ties man­ager at the Ul­ster Per­form­ing Arts Cen­ter in Kingston and is a Kingston res­i­dent.

Garth­waite has been in­volved with Clear­wa­ter since 1983, when she first stepped aboard the sloop to vol­un­teer for a week.

Six new mem­bers also were se­lected to serve on the Clear­wa­ter board: Bob Alpern of Brook­lyn, Jef­frey Do­man­ski of Bea­con, Neil Gor­don of Brook­line, Mass., Lucy John­son of LaGrangeville and Sarah Un­der­hill of Ker­honk­son.

The Clear­wa­ter or­ga­ni­za­tion is based in Bea­con. Its name­sake sloop is based in the win­ter­time on the grounds of the Hud­son River Mar­itime Mu­seum in Kingston.
