Clearwater board has new president

-

Former Clearwater Capt. Betsy Garthwaite has been named president of Hudson River Sloop Clearwater Board of Directors.

Garthwaite took the helm Saturday, succeeding Anne Todd Osborn, who became board president in the fall of 2013.

Garthwaite is employed as the facilities manager at the Ulster Performing Arts Center in Kingston and is a Kingston resident.

Garthwaite has been involved with Clearwater since 1983, when she first stepped aboard the sloop to volunteer for a week.

Six new members also were selected to serve on the Clearwater board: Bob Alpern of Brooklyn, Jeffrey Domanski of Beacon, Neil Gordon of Brookline, Mass., Lucy Johnson of LaGrangeville and Sarah Underhill of Kerhonkson.

The Clearwater organization is based in Beacon. Its namesake sloop is based in the wintertime on the grounds of the Hudson River Maritime Museum in Kingston.
