Rolling Roosevelt wins for 7th time in 8 games

Roosevelt High beat Poughkeeps­ie 6-0 for its seventh win in eight games in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League soccer match. The Presidents exploded for four goals in five minutes starting in the 28th minute.

Roosevelt High defeated Poughkeeps­ie 6-0 for its seventh win in eight games in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League soccer match.

The Presidents exploded for four goals in five minutes starting with Brandon Gracias in the 28th minute. Ethan Hart, assisted by Bryan Steigerwal­d scored in the 30th minute before Gracias scored again one minute later, on a Markese Shelby assist.

Steigerwal­d added a fourth in the 33rd minute on an assist from Fernado Laureles. Ethan Hart added another in 38th minute assisted by Nick Hulton before Angel Ocampo scored his first career goal on an Ethan Hart assist in the 69th minute.

Ryan Diehl had four saves for the (7-2) Presidents.

“From top to botom, our team attacked together and defended together,” Roosevelt Head Coach Daniel Hoffay said. “The midfield was very good, possessing the ball and drawing the Poughkeeps­ie defense out of position and our defense was stellar as usual.” Ellenville 5, Webutuck 0

At Ellenville, after a scoreless first half, the Devils went on the attack scoring four goals in four minutes.

Rylie Lake on a Wes Cruz assist and Wes Cruz assisted by Lucas Berger scored goals less than 20 seconds apart in the 55th minute to give Ellenville a 2-0 edge. Two minutes later Kyle Guiney, assisted by Matt Lamendola scored before Lake added a goal on a Cruz assist two minutes later.

Jose Cruz, on a Tiler Ferentheil assist, added the Devils’ final goal in the 80th minute.

“We played with much more energy, purpose and freedom in the second half,” Ellenville Head Coach Maxwell Mead said. “We had a lot more energy and just went at them.”

Ellenville dominated the (0-7-2) Warriors 24-4 in shots on goal.

Daniel Mahany recorded three saves for the (6-3 overall, 5-3 MHAL) Devils while Thomas Stephanopo­ulos had 9 for Webutuck. Spackenkil­l 4, Dover 0

At Poughkeeps­ie, the Spartans shut out the Dragons to clinch Division III.

After 20 scoreless minutes Travis Klipp scored Spackenkil­l’s first goal. Andrew Moreira, assisted by Jake Kaufman added another in the 26th minute before Klipp, on a Kalen McGinley scored three minutes later. Viktor Drasny scored the final goal on a Klipp assist in the 35th minute.

The Spartans led Dover 16-2 in shots on goal.

Quinn McGinnis had two saves for (8-1, 6-0) Spackenkil­l, while Anthony DeRosa had 11 for the Dragons. Marlboro 1, Highland 1

At Marlboro, Walter Espinoza scored his first goal of the season for the Dukes.

After a scoreless first half, Noah Babineau scored as the Huskies struck first.

Jawad Haidaoui had nine stops for (1-7-2) Marlboro while Dylan Warren recorded 12 for Highland. Coleman 4, Millbrook 1

At Millbrook, Brandon Davenport scored twice to lead the (8-4, 7-3) Statesmen.

Quillan Riley had a goal and an assist, while Jair Mautone rounded the Coleman scoring with a goal. Daniel Shults, meanwhile, made nine saves in the win.

Alex Censi scored the lone goal for the Blazers, while Andrew Radovic stopped six shots in the loss.
