Saugerties deals Wallkill first defeat of season

Saugerties High handed previously unbeaten Wallkill its first loss, defeating the Panthers in a five-set thriller 25-17, 23-25, 25-12, 25-27, 25-21. The Panthers fell to 7-1 overall.

The triumph also made the Sawyers 3-0 in the MidHudson Athletic League’s Division I and 5-2 overall. Wallkill is now 3-1 in the division and 7-1 overall.

Michelle Melville (seven kills, 15 assists, three blocks, two aces), Sammy Schatzel (eight kills, eight aces, seven digs, two blocks) and Kailey Collins (nine kills, five digs, two blocks) all had big performanc­es for Saugerties.

Danika Childs (12 kills, eight service points, three digs, two aces), Julia Fanning (25 assists), Rachael Colombo (13 kills, six blocks) and Lauren Alonzo (nine kills) led Wallkill. New Paltz 3, Marlboro 2

At Marlboro, New Paltz rallied from two sets down to defeat the Dukes 21-25, 23-25, 27-25, 27-25, 25-12.

Kelly Brinkman (12 digs, 11 kills, eight aces), Jordan Giancola (10 digs), Jill Harrision (10 digs, and five digs) and Ella Skye Franks (five aces, seven assists and five kills) led the (3-4) Huguenots.

At Red Hook, Morgan Corless had 10 aces, one kills, one dig and 13 assists as Raiders won 25-8, 25-10, 25-6.
