Kingston moves closer to Division 1 crown
Kingston moved closer to winning an OCIAA Division 1 tennis title with a 5-2 victory over Newburgh.
A singles sweep and a win in third doubles has Kingston High one victory away from clinching the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association’s Division 1 tennis title.
Sally Marie Ryan, Lila Shih Freeman, Raquelle DeCicco and Vyda VanDenberg grabbed singles wins, while the third doubles team of Juliette Rhodes and Christina Demosthenes were also victorious, as the Tigers defeated Newburgh Free Academy, 5-2.
With the win, Kingston improved to 6-1 division, 9-1 overall, while the (5-2 division) Goldbacks fell to 9-2 overall. The Tigers can secure the division title with a win at Pine Bush on Tuesday.
In her match at first singles, Ryan ralled to defeat Isabelle Goings-Perrot, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, while Freeman, DeCicco and VanDenberg all won in straight sets.
