Bardavon screens original ‘Magnificent Seven’
WHAT: Screening of the original ‘The Magnificent Seven” WHEN: Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. WHERE: The Bardavon, 35 Market St., Poughkeepsie DETAILS: The Bardavon opens the 20th season of its classic film series with a screening of the 1960 Western “The Magnificent Seven.” The picture is an Old West-style remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 Japanese-language film “Seven Samurai.” Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Horst Buchholz, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn, James Coburn and Brad Dexter portray the title characters, a group of seven gunfighters hired to protect a small village in Mexico from a group of marauding bandits and their leader, portrayed by Eli Wallach. The screening will support the Poughkeepsie Public Library District’s National Education Association Big Read. All seats are $6. Admission is free for those with a library card. Yard Sale/Bake Sale to benefit animal shelter
WHAT: Benefit Yard Sale/ Bake Sale WHEN: Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. WHERE: Saugerties Transfer Station, 1765 Route 212, Saugerties DETAILS: The semiannual event will benefit the Saugerties Animal Shelter.
