Unbeaten Kingston hands RV first defeat

Rieley Fitzgerald scored two goals, the first with 1:26 remaining in the second half to tie the game, and the second, with 1:48 remaining in overtime, to lift Kingston High past Rondout Valley, 2-1, in a battle of Mid-Hudson Athletic League field hockey unbeatens at Dietz Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, Courtney Coffey gave the (6-1-1) Ganders a 1-0 lead with 12:42 remaining before Fitzgerald scored the tying goal, on an assist from Olivia Prizzi, to send the game into the 10-minute extra session.

Fitzgerald and Prizzi combined for the game-winner, with Fitzgerald deflecting Prizzi’s shot from outside the circle.

“It was a fun game, a real nailbiter,” Kingston coach Deb Eaton

said. “It was a great atmosphere for a great game.”

Courtney Smith kept Rondout in game with nine saves, as the Ganders were outshot, 10-1. Abby Brocco was in goal, with no saves, for the Tigers. Onteora 5, Rhinebeck 0

At Rhinebeck, Emily Downes and Violet

Woring scored two goals each to lead the (4-2-1) Eagles.

Corey Chun had a goal, while Hailey Nainieri added an assist for Rhinebeck, which outshot the (15-1) Hawks, 13-3. Baileigh Griese was in goal in the win.

At Pine Plains, Cat Simmons’ goal with 4:27 remaining in regulation lifted

the (1-7-2) Bombers to the tie.

Meghan Murray had an assist for Pine Plains, while Alice Wilser made seven saves.

Ashlyn Rivera scored for the (1-4-2) Devils, on an assist from Alex Moschetta, in the first half, while Megan Eckert stopped eight shots to preserve the tie. Both teams had nine shots on goal and eight penalty corners. Pine Bush 2, Red Hook 1

At Pine Bush, Helen Deretchin’s second goal of the game with 6:18 remaining in the second half broke a 1-1 tie for the (5-1-2) Lady Bushmen.

Brittany Vasquez had an assist, while Erin Vandemark made 10 saves in the win.

Maddy Hacket had a goal, on an assist from Sarah Timperio, while Julianna Schaffrick stopped nine shots in the loss for the (1-3-1) Raiders.
