Helping seniors avoid scams focus of seminar
State Sen. George Amedore, R-Rotterdam, will host a free senior scam prevention seminar on Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. at the Marbletown Community Center, 3564 Main St.
At the seminar, a representative from the Department of State Consumer Affairs division will join Amedore to present how to recognize and avoid targeted scams that prey specifically on seniors.
Tips will be given on how to avoid both prominent and lesser-known scams, and what to do if a senior falls victim.
“We are seeing an alarming trend with scammers preying on vulnerable seniors to steal their identity or defraud them,” Amedore said in a press release. “Participants in this seminar will learn valuable tools to help keep them from falling victim to a scam, and where to turn if they do.”
The event is free. To register, call Amedore’s Kingston office at (845) 331-3810 or email amedore@nysenate.gov.
