Saugerties downs Red Hook
Sam Bagshaw and Martin Lopez each had a goal and one assist to lead Saugerties High to a 3-1 victory over Red Hook Monday in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League boys soccer match.
Bagshaw put the (7-4) Sawyers ahead, but Jason Allen soon tied it for Red Hook.
Cesar Ortiz snapped the 1-1 tie at the 29th minute with a goal off a Lopez assist. Lopez connected off a Bagshaw pass for an insurance goal with 17 minutes left to play.
Seth Vanderbeck had six saves for Saugerties, while Ryan Hobson had five for (7-3) Red Hook.
Mia Michaelides and Sheena Dwyer-McNulty placed in the top five, leading Red Hook High’s girls to a third-place finish at the Brewster Bear Classic cross country invitational meet.
Michaelides was third overall in 19:06 and McNulty fifth in 19:25 to both earn medals. That helped bolster the Raiders’ high placing in the Varsity 1 race.
Also running for Red Hook were Gianna Cuevas (27th, 21:27), Sierra Siedsma (51st, 23:05) and Molly Higgins (89th, 29:30).
Jack Hobson medaled in the boys Varsity 1 race, taking fourth in 16:17.
The Raiders were 12th overall. Also competing were Adam Beach (46th, 18:03), Owen McCann (69th, 18:47), Alex Robertson (72nd, 18:54), Connor Donovan (88th, 19:21) and Colin Bertomeu (103rd, 20:09).
Also medaling for Red Hook at the meet were Grace Beach (fourth), and Kaela Wigley (15th) in the freshman race.
