Al­fred J. Sweet, Jr., 86, of Gar­den Ct., died Tues­day, Oct. 4, 2016, at his res­i­dence.

Born April 13, 1930, in Glens Falls to the late Al­fred J. Sweet, Sr., and Dorothy Camp Sweet.

A grad­u­ate of Syra­cuse Univer­sity Col­lege of En­gi­neer­ing, he was em­ployed by IBM for 36 years, re­tir­ing in 1991 as a Se­nior En­gi­neer­ing Man­ager. Al served on the Board of Di­rec­tors and was the Gen­eral Man­ager of the Wood­stock Cham­ber Orches­tra from 1980-2007. He and his wife, Melissa, were the flutists from the Orches­tra’s in­cep­tion. In ad­di­tion, he served as Busi­ness Man­ager of both Ars Cho­ralis and the Hud­son Val­ley Gil­bert and Sul­li­van Mu­sic The­ater Com­pany.

Sur­vivors in­clude his wife of 60 years, the for­mer Melissa Marrs; chil­dren, Jef­frey (Ivone) Sweet of Sauger­ties, El­iz­a­beth (Wil­liam) Neil­son of Knoxville, Tenn., Stephen (Jai) Sweet of Ithaca, N.Y., Jonathan Sweet of Sauger­ties, Brian (Amy) Sweet of Winthrop, Wash., and Kim­berly (Meghan) Sweet of Fish­ers, Ind.; five grand­sons, three grand­daugh­ters, and a great-grand­daugh­ter.

He was pre-de­ceased by two broth­ers and a sis­ter.

His Fu­neral Ser­vice will be held 10 a.m. Satur­day at the Sea­mon-Wilsey Fu­neral Home Inc., cor­ner of John and Lafayette Sts., Sauger­ties. Burial will fol­low in the Glens Falls Ceme­tery.
