Alfred J. Sweet, Jr., 86, of Garden Ct., died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at his residence.
Born April 13, 1930, in Glens Falls to the late Alfred J. Sweet, Sr., and Dorothy Camp Sweet.
A graduate of Syracuse University College of Engineering, he was employed by IBM for 36 years, retiring in 1991 as a Senior Engineering Manager. Al served on the Board of Directors and was the General Manager of the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra from 1980-2007. He and his wife, Melissa, were the flutists from the Orchestra’s inception. In addition, he served as Business Manager of both Ars Choralis and the Hudson Valley Gilbert and Sullivan Music Theater Company.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, the former Melissa Marrs; children, Jeffrey (Ivone) Sweet of Saugerties, Elizabeth (William) Neilson of Knoxville, Tenn., Stephen (Jai) Sweet of Ithaca, N.Y., Jonathan Sweet of Saugerties, Brian (Amy) Sweet of Winthrop, Wash., and Kimberly (Meghan) Sweet of Fishers, Ind.; five grandsons, three granddaughters, and a great-granddaughter.
He was pre-deceased by two brothers and a sister.
His Funeral Service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Sts., Saugerties. Burial will follow in the Glens Falls Cemetery.
