‘The American Soldier’ in Red Hook on Nov. 11, 12, 13
WHAT: One-man show, “The American Soldier” WHEN: Nov. 11 and 12 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 13 at 3 p.m. WHERE: Arts at the Chocolate Factory, Suite 2, 54 Elizabeth St., Red Hook DETAILS: Frank Marquette of Theatre on the Road and Richard Rizzo of Rhinebeck Readers Theatre is proud to present Douglas Taurel’s in “The American Soldier.” Based on real stories and factual accounts from actual soldier and family member letters written from the American Revolution all the way through to current-day Afghanistan, the play honors and pays tribute to veterans and their families and examines the internal struggles that soldiers face when returning home from combat. In a 55-minute tour de force, enhanced by an ingenious interplay of sound and lights, Taurel enters into the personas of 14 veterans and their family members, telling their story of courage and sacrifice. Tickets are $20 each with a portion of the proceeds going to Veteran’s Community Clinics in Dutchess and Ulster counties. Love it or Swap it event to benefit Sinterklaas
WHAT: Love it or Swap it event WHEN: Oct. 23 from noon to 4 p.m. WHERE: Rhinebeck United Methodist Church, 83 E. Market St., Rhinebeck DETAILS: The Love it or Swap it event is a benefit for Sinterklaas. People should drop off their clothes on Oct. 22 between noon and 2 p.m. or bring them with them on the day of the swap. There is a $25 entrance fee. Swap your women’s clothing, shoes and accessories for a new wardrobe of gently used and in good condition items. Attendees can buy a $10 raffle ticket for a new Marc Jabobs bag. There will be holiday bargains and merchandise at the Sinter Store, which will sell gifts, jewelry, scarves, clothing (including Eileen Fisher pieces) and more from local businesses and beyond. There will also be gift certificates and gift baskets from Boitson’s, Fiddleheads, Taste of Rhinebeck, Fiber Flame, Iconic Hair, Jazz at Lincoln Center and others.
