Douglas Stathagi Diamond, age 77 of Red Hook, New York died on Oct. 12, 2016, at the Thompson House in Rhinebeck.

He was born on Feb. 26, 1939, in Marlboro, Mass., to Christos Ephstastat­hios Diamond and Olga Kote Diamond.

He earned a B.A. from, Suffolk University and a M.A. from Bridgeport University.

Doug served in the US Army Reserves as a Medic from 1964 to 1970.

He married Jane Kurschner his wife of 51 years, who survives him, on Aug. 8, 1965.

Doug loved all sports. In high school he was a local celebrity for his skills at pool and billiards. He caddied at the Marlboro County Club and began his lifelong love of golf.

There will be no services at this time. A celebratio­n of his life will be held in the spring.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Thompson House where the staff took him to their hearts and made his passing as peaceful as is humanly possible. They were a great comfort to all who loved Doug when they came to visit. To those who choose to remember him in this way, I give my heartfelt thanks. Jane Kurschner Diamond.
