Friends of His­toric Saugerties meets Nov. 15

WHAT: Friends of His­toric Saugerties event WHEN: Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. WHERE: Com­mu­nity Room of Saugerties Pub­lic Li­brary, 91 Wash­ing­ton Ave., Saugerties

DE­TAILS: Friends of His­toric Saugerties will host a talk by Bill Birns. It is ti­tled “I Go to Na­ture to be Soothed and Healed, and to have My Senses put in Or­der: John Bur­roughs, The Catskill Moun­tains and the Amer­i­can Wild.” From Catskill Moun­tain farm boy to na­tion­ally cel­e­brated “Sage of Slab­sides,” writer and nat­u­ral­ist John Bur­roughs car­ried the Catskills in his soul wher­ever he went. His widely read na­ture es­says helped shape the development of the first Amer­i­can con­ser­va­tion move­ment in the late 19th and early 20th cen­turies. A teacher and writer, Burns is a trus­tee of Bur­roughs’ Wood­chuck Lodge in Roxbury and is cur­rently serving as pres­i­dent of the Board of Trustees. Ad­mis­sion is free, and all are wel­come.
