Friends of Historic Saugerties meets Nov. 15

WHAT: Friends of Historic Saugerties event WHEN: Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. WHERE: Community Room of Saugerties Public Library, 91 Washington Ave., Saugerties

DETAILS: Friends of Historic Saugerties will host a talk by Bill Birns. It is titled “I Go to Nature to be Soothed and Healed, and to have My Senses put in Order: John Burroughs, The Catskill Mountains and the American Wild.” From Catskill Mountain farm boy to nationally celebrated “Sage of Slabsides,” writer and naturalist John Burroughs carried the Catskills in his soul wherever he went. His widely read nature essays helped shape the developmen­t of the first American conservati­on movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A teacher and writer, Burns is a trustee of Burroughs’ Woodchuck Lodge in Roxbury and is currently serving as president of the Board of Trustees. Admission is free, and all are welcome.
