Thomas Fran­cis Go­timer, 92, of Phoenicia

Thomas Fran­cis Go­timer, 92, of Phoenicia, died Wed­nes­day, Oct. 19, 2016, at the Golden Hill Nurs­ing Home af­ter a brief stay. He was born Novem­ber 9, 1923, in Bay Ridge, Brook­lyn, son of the late Ge­orge and Mar­ion McGin­nis Go­timer. He was a grad­u­ate of St. John’s Prep, Class of ’43. He was a vet­eran of the U.S. Navy, hav­ing served with the Se­abees of Con­struc­tion Bat­tal­ion 119 in the Pa­cific, where he was awarded the Amer­i­can Theatre Medal, Asi­atic Pa­cific Medal, and the Philip­pine Lib­er­a­tion Medal. Tom worked for many years with the New York Rac­ing As­so­ci­a­tion as head of mu­tual op­er­a­tions. He had been an area res­i­dent since 1978, hav­ing pre­vi­ously resided in Green­wich Vil­lage, New York City. He was a mem­ber of the St. Fran­cis de Sales Parish and choir.

Surviving are his brother, Ge­orge T. Go­timer Jr. of Mar­garetville; eight de­voted nieces and neph­ews; and his Phoenicia care­giv­ing friends, in­clud­ing Tom and Louise and Wayne and Ros­alia. He was pre­de­ceased by his sib­lings, Sr. Maryeu­gene Go­timer, S.C., Jeanne P. Buchanan, Mar­ion E. Dup­per, the Rev. Msgr. James E. Go­timer, and his part­ner of 49 years, Orville L. DeS­tatte.

A Mass of Chris­tian Burial will be held on Mon­day at 10 a.m. at St. Fran­cis de Sales Parish. Burial will be at St. Fran­cis de Sales Ceme­tery.
