Eva Vasquez connected on a Kira Podmaryersky assist 11 minutes into the second half to give Saugerties a 2-1 lead that was all they needed to top Onteora in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League girls soccer match Friday.

After just under 30 scoreless minutes, Molly Dagett scored on a Hannah Spolijaric assist to give the Sawyers a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later, though, Hallie King kicked in the equalizer.

Saugerties held an 11-6 edge in shots on goal.

Amber Serrano recorded five saves for Saugerties, while Juliette Patterson had eight for the Eagles.

Rhinebeck High scored three goals in the first 30 minutes Saturday, enabling the Hawks to defeat John S. Burke Catholic 3-1 in a Section 9, Class B boys soccer quarterfinal match.

The third-seeded Hawks advance to play at No. 2 Spackenkill in a noon semifinal Tuesday.

Nakoa Zuger put Rhinebeck ahead 6:20 into the match. Lex Kronbichler followed with a goal at the 19th minute. Quinn Graziano made it 3-0 with a penalty kick with 10 minutes left before halftime. Spackenkill 1, Marlboro 0

At Marlboro, Viktor Drasny’s goal 18:35 into the game was the difference as Spackenkill advanced to the semis.

Quinn McGinnis and the Spartan defense kept the Dukes at bay. McGinnis finished with nine saves, including a big breakaway bid to tie with 1:40 left in regulation. Fallsburg 3, Ellenville 0

At Fallsburg, the topseeded Comets got a pair of critical goals in a two-minute span midway through the second half to secure Saturday’s quarterfinal win over Ellenville.

Kelvin Nunez scored at the 24th minute off a Jonathan Lagos assist, then got an unassisted tally with 16 minutes left to play. Luis Romero scored just two minutes later.

“We played a good first half, but found ourselves down 1-0 at halftime. The second half was a lot tougher,” admitted Ellenville coach Maxwell Mead, whose team beat Rondout in an outbracket game Friday.

“We were tired from yesterday, and I started to see some heavy legs.

“There was a bad missed call leading up to the second goal and we were not able to respond,” Mead said.

“Overall, Fallsburg played a better 80 minutes and deserved to win.”

Fallsburgh outshot the Blue Devils 19-12. Comet goalie Selvin Brizuela had six saves, while Daniel Mahany made seven.

Ellenville finished the season with a 9-8 record. Ellenville 2, Rondout 0

At Kyserike, Wes Cruz set up goals by Rylie Lake at the 19th minute off a corner kick and then assisted Matt Lamendola’s goal at the 60th to enable Ellenville to win.

Mahany had one save for the Devils. Rondout Valley keeper Ryan Sheehan made 11 saves to keep the match tight.

“We made some unbelievable saves,” Mead said. “The game would have been higher scoring if not for his heroics. He was everywhere.”
