Maritime Museum hosts ‘Legends of the Hudson River’

The Hudson River Maritime Museum and the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater are hosting “Legends of the Hudson River” – celebratin­g both real and fictional stories about Hudson River history, with a series of events Sunday and Monday at the museum, 50 Rondout Landing, Kingston.

Activities will include deck tours with costumed Clearwater crew, appropriat­e children’s activities, face painting and costume parades. Director of Education, Sarah Wassberg, notes that a special “Creatures of the Deep” display of real-life “Hudson River monsters” has been designed by the Clearwater crew for each evening.

On Sunday, Oct. 30 from 1 to 4 p.m., the museum will host free no-scare children’s activities including deck tours, games, face painting, and a 2 p.m. costume parade. From 4 to 6 p.m., the Hudson River Maritime Museum will host spooky storytelli­ng on the museum grounds and in the Kingston Home Port and Education Center. The real-life “Creatures of the Deep” will be on display.

On Monday, Oct. 31 from 3 to 5 p.m., HRMM will host free no-scare children’s activities including deck tours, games, face painting, and a 4 p.m. costume parade. From 5 to 7 p.m., the museum will host spooky storytelli­ng on the museum grounds and in the Kingston Home Port and Education Center. The real-life “Creatures of the Deep” will be on display.

Two Halloween-themed public sails on the Hudson River sloop Clearwater will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30 and also at 5 p.m. on Monday. The sloop will depart from the museum docks. Each of these special Halloween sails can be booked through Clearwater, at http://www.clearwater.org/come-sailing/publicsail-schedule/and is $50 for adults, $35 for Clearwater members and $15 for children.

Costumed guests will receive free admission to the museum all weekend and there will be “Trick or Treating” at the Museum Gift Shop from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
