Charles T. Win­ters III, 74, of Sauger­ties

Charles T. Win­ters III, 74, of Mill Lane Ex­ten­sion, for­merly of Russell Street, died Thurs­day, Oct. 27, 2016, at the Golden Hill Health Nurs­ing and Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Cen­ter, with his fam­ily at his side.

Born May 31, 1942, in Sauger­ties, he was the son of the late Charles T. and Philom­ena Win­ters.

A lifetime Sauger­ties res­i­dent, he be­gan a ca­reer in law en­force­ment as a Vil­lage of Sauger­ties po­lice of­fi­cer in 1968. He served as the pres­i­dent of the Vil­lage of Sauger­ties PBA, as a mem­ber of the Ulster County Shields, served on both the town and vil­lage of Sauger­ties Po­lice Ad­vi­sory Boards and was a for­mer po­lice com­mis­sioner for the Vil­lage of Sauger­ties. He re­tired from the po­lice force in 1991. In 1992, he was elected as a Vil­lage Board Trustee for the vil­lage of Sauger­ties, where he served for two terms, re­tir­ing in 1996.

He ob­tained his Real Es­tate Bro­ker’s Li­cense in 1973 and opened the Charles Win­ters Real Es­tate Busi­ness, which is still in op­er­a­tion, headed up by his son, John Win­ters. He was a mem­ber of the Ulster County MLS and the Board of Real­tors. He also was a process server and a com­mis­sioned no­tary pub­lic.

He was a life mem­ber of R.A. Snyder Hose Co. No. 1 and a life mem­ber of the Sauger­ties Ex­empts Fire­men’s As­so­ci­a­tion. Charles had a huge heart and was al­ways ready and will­ing to help peo­ple in need, and has helped a count­less num­ber of peo­ple in his lifetime.

Charles and Karen deeply loved each other and were mar­ried at age 15 and 17. He was a very ded­i­cated fam­ily man and loved and en­joyed ev­ery mo­ment with his fam­ily and he loved his Coun­try and God. Charles is and was one of Sauger­ties Great Pioneers.

Sur­vivors in­clude his wife, the for­mer Karen Min­kler; one daugh­ter, Ann and her hus­band Neal Smoller; two sons, Charles T. IV and his wife ToniLynne and John J. and his wife Tina Win­ters; grand­chil­dren, Neal and his wife Erin Smoller Jr., Karen and her hus­band Luis Guillen Martinez, Charles V, Christopher and his wife Amanda, Stephanie and John Jr. Win­ters; his great-grand­chil­dren, Rowan, Liv, Ava and Arya Smoller, Peter, Tay­lor, Michael, Ju­lia, Ryan and Kenzi Win­ters and El­iza Guillen Martinez; two sis­ters, Vera Wager and Char­lotte Win­ters; and one brother, Steven Win­ters.

He was pre­de­ceased by his beloved brother, Michael Win­ters, and his beloved grand­son, Michael Win­ters. Sev­eral nieces, neph­ews and cousins also sur­vive.

His fu­neral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sea­mon-Wilsey Fu­neral Home Inc., cor­ner of John and Lafayette streets, Sauger­ties. In­ter­ment will fol­low in Blue Moun­tain Ceme­tery. Friends will be re­ceived Sun­day from 7 to 9 p.m. and Mon­day from 2to4and7­to9p.m.Ex­pres­sions of con­do­lence may be shared with the fam­ily at Sea­monWilseyFuner­al­
