Roosevelt again sweeps at MHAL championsh­ips

For the second straight year, Roosevelt High swept to team victories in both the boys and girls races at Friday’s MidHudson Athletic League cross country championsh­ip meet at Ogden Mills Estate.

For the second straight year, Roosevelt High swept to team victories in both the boys and girls races at Friday’s MidHudson Athletic League cross country championsh­ip meet at Ogden Mills Estate.

Sarah Trainor captured the girls individual title for the Presidents, finishing the 5-kilometer course in 19:44.41. John Farrell (17:19.11) and Liam Farrell (17:34.58), meanwhile, placed second and third, respective­ly, behind overall winner Jack Hobson of Red Hook (16:58.52) to pace the Roosevelt boys.

The Presidents totaled 36 points to finish well ahead of runner-up Red Hook (93), with Wallkill (98), Onteora (124) and Marlboro (166) rounding the top-5 in the 15-team event. In the girls team standings, the Presidents (68 points) finished ahead of New Paltz (72), with the Raiders (87), Spackenkil­l (92) and Rondout Valley (109) rounding the top-5 in the 13-team meet.

Red Hook’s Sheena Dwyer-McNulty was runner-up in the girls race in 20:11.84, with Webutuck’s Taylor Edmundson (20:26.64), Raiders’ Mia Michaelide­s (20:27.08) and Chloe Hanson of Saugerties (20:43.55) rounding the top-5.

Rounding out the top-5 in the boys race behind Hobson and the Farrells were Marlboro’s Cliff Rood (17:40.92) and Roosevelt’s Tito Maresca (17:45.87).
