SUNY New Paltz teams place sixth out of 10

Both the SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s cross coun­try teams placed sixth out of 10 teams in the State Uni­ver­sity of New York Ath­letic Con­fer­ence cham­pi­onships.

The Hawks women’s squad fin­ished with a slightly bet­ter 148-point show­ing, led by Re­beca Ver­rone who placed 14th in the 6K with a time of 22:34.1. Emily Ca­vanagh (15th, 22:35.2), Sherri Met­calfe (45th, 23.52), Vanessa Mor­gan (49th, 23:57.7) and Brenna O’Brien (50th, 24:02.3) fol­lowed for New Paltz.

Geneseo col­lected 28 points to take home its sec­ond straight women’s ti­tle and 16th over­all. Oneonta fin­ished sec­ond with 43 points, while Cort­land took third with 113 points.

The men’s team fin­ished with 153 points, led by Gal Vasquez who fin­ished 15th out of 114 run­ners in the 8K course with a 25:28.3, fol­lowed by Stephen Smith (35th, 26.59.4), Jack Wil­son (40th 27:12.5), Josh Korn (41st, 27:14.9), Bar­rett Celecki (43rd, 27:21.9).

Kingston High grad­u­ate Ian Detweiler fin­ished 43rd in 27:21.9, while On­te­ora’s Ai­dan Klein was 108th with 31:31.8.

Geneseo took its third straight SUNYAC ti­tle and 15th over­all, while Oneonta fin­ished sec­ond with 62, and Fre­do­nia fin­ished third with 94.

The Hawks men’s and women’s teams com­pete in the NCAAA Di­vi­sion III re­gional cham­pi­onships at Rowan Uni­ver­sity in Glass­boro, New Jersey on Nov. 12.
