HURLEY >> Ryan Richard Kern, 22, Maple Lane, Hurley, passed away unexpected­ly on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016.

Ryan was born in Newburgh, N.Y., on May 20, 1994, a son of Richard and Sandy Kern of Hurley, and Tracy and Joseph Del Villar, of Hyde Park.

Ryan was a graduate of Kingston High School class of 2012, and SUNY Ulster, where he received his A.S. degree in Nursing in 2015. He was a very quiet and caring man who loved animals, especially dogs.

In addition to his parents, he is survived sisters, Kelly Kern, Karlee North, Tanya Hitchock, Taylor Del Villar; brothers, Ryan North, Eric, Jason, Julian, and Joseph Del Villar; grandparen­ts, Nancy and Frank Valenti of Gardiner, and Stephen and Jan Balletta of New Port Richie, Fla.; and maternal grandmothe­r, Emily LaTorella of Highland. Many aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.

He is predecease­d by paternal grandparen­ts, Thomas and Debra Wittekind, and maternal grandmothe­r, Nancy Velez.

The funeral service will be held 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at the Gilpatric-VanVliet Funeral Home, 339 Broadway, Ulster Park, Town of Esopus. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Cremation will be held privately at Wiltwyck Crematory.

A celebratio­n of Ryan’s life will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, at the New Paltz Elks Lodge, 290 Rt. 32, New Paltz, N.Y., 12561.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributi­ons in Ryan’s memory to: Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center, P.O. Box 3994, Kingston, N.Y., 12402.
