Program of modern classical music in Kingston
WHAT: Modern classical music program WHEN: Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. WHERE: Arts Society of Kingston, 97 Broadway, Kingston
DETAILS: The Poné Ensemble for New Music will present a program of modern classical music. The program will complement Arts Society of Kingston’s October Members Exhibition, “Off the Square: Irregular Shapes” and explore ideas of creativity in both music and the visual arts. The concert will begin with “Three Pieces in the Shape of a Pear” for piano duo, composed by Erik Satie, followed by works by American composers Katherine Hoover, Chris Weait and Irving Fine, and by Robert Ronnes, of Norway. Admission is $15.

Sustainability focus of lecture at Vassar
WHAT: Lecture, “Building an Economy in Service of Life” WHEN: Nov. 14 at 5 p.m. WHERE: Taylor Hall Auditorium, Room 203, on the campus of Vassar College, 124 Raymond Ave., Poughkeepsie
DETAILS: Hunter Lovins, the president and founder of Natural Capitalism Solutions, will give a lecture. Lovins, a professor of sustainable management at Bard College, will discuss the recent ratification of the Paris climate agreement, the U.S. general elections and how students may pursue career opportunities that support what she terms “an economy in service of life.” The event is free and open to the public.
