Section 9 champions Kingston, Rondout and Red Hook all defeated in regional field hockey play.

Section 1 scored a field hockey sweep over Section 9 opponents Saturday as Kingston, Rondout Valley and Red Hook all lost in the regional finals.

All three teams were shut out. Scarsdale beat Kingston 5-0 in the Class A match, while Bronxville held off Rondout 2-0 in Class C and seven-time defending Class B state champion Lakeland blanked Red Hook 8-0.

The winners advanced to next week’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association final four in the Binghamton area. Scarsdale 5, Kingston 0

Previously undefeated Kingston kept the match tight thanks to the great play of goalkeeper Abby Brocco. Scarsdale led 2-0 at halftime and it was 3-0 until with six minutes remaining despite its dominating play.

Erin Nicholas had a goal and three assists and freshmen Sophia Franco and Elizabeth Scarcella had two goals apiece to lead Scarsdale.

The match remained scoreless until Franco connected on a scramble in front of the cage with 17:05 left in the half. It stayed 1-0 until Scarcella

scored off a Nicholas crossing pass just before halftime.

Brocco stopped a Nicholas blast, but Scarcella banged in the rebound to make it 3-0 8:30 into the second half. The Tiger defense and Brocco kept the Raiders at bay after that. Franco and Nicholas tacked on goals in the final 5:30.

Kingston finished the year with a 14-1-1 record. Bronxville 2, Rondout 0

Goalie Courtney Smith and the Rondout defense did a terrific job handling Bronxville. The tone was set early in the match when Smith stopped a point-blank shot by Hadley Barr.

Kat Ungvary was able to tap in a rebound off a Smith save to give the

Broncos the lead 10:51 into the game. Ellie Walsh made it 2-0 with 2:38 left in the half.

The (12-4-3) Ganders had their best opportunity early in the second half, applying pressure in the circle and earning four consecutive penalty corners. Rondout, however, failed to capitalize and Bronxville and its goalie, Katie Gordon, maintained the shutout. Lakeland 8, Red Hook 0

Undefeated Lakeland improved its record to 19-0-2 as it heads back to the final four.

Meghan Fahey had two goals and two assists, Cali Cortese and Kelsey McCrudden each scored twice, Julia Wanamaker and Mia Lennon had one goal each and Jessica Ascencao added an assist to lead Lakeland. The Hornets had a 6-0 lead by halftime.
