Kingston High’s Taylor Robey qualified for the state swim meet Saturday after winning the 100-yard freestyle at the Section 9 swim qualifying meet at Valley Central.

The senior will close out her career at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association meet Nov. 18-19 at Ithaca College. She slashed more than a quarter of a second off her time and met the state cut with a 54.34 in Thursday’s preliminaries, then took another second off with a 53.37 to win the event Saturday.

Robey nearly made it in the 50free. She hadn’t made the state standard, but was out-touched by New Paltz’s Abigail Santos and placed second eight-hundreths of a second (24.93-25.01) behind.

Santos had a big day for New Paltz. She also won the butterfly (58.77) and also made states in the 200 medley relay (second, 1:51.66) with Bella and Kaela Santos plus Morgane Kuyl, plus the 200 free relay (third, 1:41.68) with the same trio.

Kuyl qualified for a third event, making the cut with a second-place 54.17 in the 100-free behind Robey.

Roosevelt’s junior Amber Diehl also qualified for states, winning the breaststroke with a 1:05.95.

Washingtonville won the meet, edging Monroe-Woodbury 339-337. New Paltz was third overall with 282 points. Kingston’s young squad placed fifth with 186.
