William M. Knox, Sr., 69, of Hunter Street, Kingston, died on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family in the care of Hospice.

Born in New Haven, Conn., he is the son of the late Oscar and Eunice R. (Roach) Knox, Sr.

William was a graduate of Kingston High School and attended Ulster County Community College. William was a U.S. Army Medic serving during the Vietnam War, he was awarded a Purple Heart. He worked at S.C.O.R.E. in downtown Kingston, then later worked at Naponach Correction Facility, and he also worked at IBM.

He is survived by his children: Yolanda Knox, Dana Knox, William M. Knox, Jr., Paul W. Knox, Matthew Knox, Jechiel Knox, Damien Knox, Lamarr Knox, Sr., Atiya A. Green-Knox (Charles), Kellina S. Knox; his siblings, Rosia Thomason, George O. Knox, Sr., Lottie F. Knox, Alfonso Knox, and Richard Hailey; and special nieces, Princetta Dema and Natasha J. Knox who was his caretaker. Also surviving are 33 grandchild­ren, 26 great-grandchild­ren, a host of nieces, nephews and loved ones.

Funeral and cremation arrangemen­ts are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., 27 Smith Avenue, Kingston, N.Y. www. jv leahyfh.com Friends will be received on Thursday from 12 to 1 p.m. at New Progressiv­e Baptist Church. A Home Going Celebratio­n will take place at 1 p.m. with Rev. Paul Worthingto­n officiatin­g. Cremation will take place a Wiltwyck Crematory. Inurnment with Military Honors will take place on Saturday at Wiltwyck Cemetery.
