12-under Fillies go 7-0 to win Long Island title

The Kingston American Legion Post 150 12U Ulster Fillies went 7-0 to capture the recent United States Speciality Sports Associatio­n’s Long Island fastpitch softball qualifier.

Elyse Marcano struck out 13 in seven innings against in a victory over the LAC Force in the final. In the semifinals, Marcano had 10 strikeouts and allowed three hits in six innings of work in a 2-0 win over the Bluefire.

To reach the semis, the Fillies routed the NY Nationals, 17-5, and blanked the South Shore Chiefs, 9-0. Mae Mae Cabrera and Ava Del Salto, who had a one-hitter and fanned seven against the Chiefs, recorded the wins.

Jaidyn Canino (triple, double, three singles), Ava Del Salto (home run, two singles), Emma Schlagler (five singles), Carly Correa (two doubles, two singles) and Ryanne Conde (four singles) led the Fillies in eliminatio­n play.

Ulster went 3-0 in pool play. Del Salto had 10 strikeouts in a 6-0 win over the Long Island Pride. Marcano struck out 11 over seven innings in a 2-0 win over the LAC Force before striking out seven over five innings of work as the Fillies downed the Bluefire.

Leading the offense in pool play were Canino (double, three singles), Kasey Conn (double, single) and Caberea (double, single). The Fillies finished their fall season 14-4.
