Veterans Day observances planned for today
Today is Veterans Day. Here are some of the local observances that are planned.
• Esopus: American Legion Post 1298 will host a service starting at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Monument at the Town Hall on Broadway in Port Ewen. The event will include a dedication to brothers James, David and Dennis Reilly. James and David served in the Marines, David in the Air Force. • Hurley: John F. Jordan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5086 will hold a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Town Hall, 10 Wamsley Place.
• Hyde Park: A ceremony is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. at the Veterans’ Memorial, 4383 Albany Post Road, hosted by American Legion Post 1303. For more information, call Michael Athanas at (845) 233-5999.
• City of Kingston: A ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. in the Common Council chambers at City Hall, 420 Broadway. Immediately following the ceremony, there will be a rifle salute and the playing of taps in front of City Hall. For more information, call Bill Forte at (845) 339-1486.
• Marbletown: A ceremony is planned for 11 a.m. at the Marbletown Community Center, 3564 Main St., Stone Ridge. The event is being organized by American Legion Post 1512. For more information, call Don Wells at (845) 853-3024 or email wellsey45@gmail.com.
• Olive: American Legion Post 1627 will host a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the legion hall on Mountain Road in the hamlet of Ashokan. Chairs will be set up for people attending the indoor event. Light refreshments will be served afterward.
• Red Hook: A ceremony is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, Albany Post Road, hosted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7765. For more information, call William Moore at (845) 758-6212.
