SUNY Hawks solid in NCAA Di­vi­sion III Re­gion­als

GLASSBORO, N.J >>> Both the SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s cross coun­try teams placed top-20 at the NCAA Di­vi­sion III Re­gion­als at Rowan University.

The women made the best showing fin­ish­ing 15the out of 43 teams with 370 points. Emily Ca­vanagh led the Hawks, plac­ing 30th of out 303 run­ners in the 6k, fin­ish­ing with a school­record time of 21:57.6

Re­becca Ver­rone (43rd, 22:18.9), Sheri Met­calfe (53rd, 22:32.1), Amanda En­gras­sia (123rd, 23:27.2), and Brenna O’Brein (124th, 23:28) rounded out the New Paltz scor­ers.

Ge­nesseo took top honors with 90 points to earn the au­to­matic bid to the NCAA Di­vi­sion III cham­pi­onships. SUNY Oneonta was run­ner-up with 112 points, also earn­ing a, NCAA bid, with 121 points.

Amy Re­gan from the Steven’s In­sti­tute of Tech­nol­ogy was first in 20:05.1

The men fin­ished 20th with 506 points, led by Galo Vasquez, who fin­ished the 8k course 23rd out 303 run­ners, in a school-record 25:03.3.

Wal­lkill High grad­u­ate Stephen Smith (82nd, 26:07), Josh Korn (103rd, 26:22.2), Kingston prod­uct Ian Detweiler (137th, 26:48) and Bar­rett Celecki (165th, 27:17.4) rounded the Hawks.

Ge­ne­seo fin­ished first with 51 points to reach na­tion­als. RPI earned the run­ner-up spot and a bid to the NCAAs with 87 points. The Knights’ Isaac Gar­cia-Cas­sani was first in 24:15.8.
