Liza Salvemini, 61, of Woodbourne

Liza Salvemini, age 61, of 6351 state Route 42, Woodbourne, N.Y., Was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, at Albany Medical Center, with her loving family by her side.

Born to Vincent J. Carpino and Joan Beverly VanGaasbek on July 16, 1955, in Kingston, N.Y., she received her education in the Kingston school system and graduated from Kingston High School in 1974. She then attended Albert Einstein Medical Center School of Nursing in Philadelphia, Pa., for a period of time. Liza then moved to Florida for a few years and then returned to Kingston, at which time she completed a course of study at the Richard the First School of Beauty and received her cosmetology degree, becoming a licensed cosmetologist in the state of New York. She worked in many beauty shops in the Kingston Area and also maintained a home visit hair care business in Kingston, Rhinebeck, and Sullivan County, which she maintained for the rest of her life.

Liza was extremely talented in her craft and was sought after by many customers up until this day. Her customers loved her both as a beautician and as a loving person and friend. Later on, she took a position as a customer service representative with Time Warner Cable in Port Ewen, N.Y. Liza became collections supervisor and was well-loved by her customers for her kind and gentle demeanor. Liza also made many friends there and held them close to heart until her passing.

During this time, she met the love of her life, her future husband, Carmen Salvemini, who was director of Pharmacy at Kingston Hospital. It was love at first sight for Liza, which she promptly told everyone. Many thanks to Augusta Lichtenberg and Francoise Dunefsky for arranging their meeting. Liza and Carmen enjoyed 25 years of love and friendship. They renewed their marital vows on July 16, 2016, at St. Peter’s Church in Liberty, with Father William Scafidi, Liza’s High school classmate, performing the sacrament of marriage ceremony. Liza and Carmen enjoyed many wonderful vacations with her siblings, nephews, and nieces. She especially loved trips to Myrtle Beach and cruising the high seas.

Liza and Carmen also Lived in Franklin, N.C., for a few years and made many wonderful friends there. Upon returning to New York, they settled in Woodbourne and Liza continued to tend the Lord’s flock in her midst to the best of her ability and also worked parttime at the beauty parlor at SCACC with her dear friend, Pat Kellam.

Liza fought a monumental battle with ovarian cancer for five long years and during that time she was an inspiration to all those who witnessed her powerful spirit and strength. Liza was also very active in community affairs and served as the treasurer of the Tri-Valley Lions Club.

Liza’s favorite pastimes were cooking, caring for her family, surfing the Internet, and playing the slots wherever they could be found. She was a kind and gentle soul who was well loved by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Carmen at home; a father, Vincent J. Carpino of Kingston; brothers, Vincent Carpino Jr. of Pensacola, Fla., Edwin Carpino and wife Tammy of Kingston, Victor Carpino and wife Olga of Boston, Mass.; and a sister, Kimberly Williams and husband Tom of Kingston, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, and close friends, whom she loved with all her heart.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Manuel Perry, chief of oncology at Crystal Run Healthcare, and the wonderful nurses at the CRMC outpatient infusion center where she received her treatment for their excellent and loving care.

Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston (www.jvleahyfh.com). Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral procession will form Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, Father William Scafidi celebrating. Burial will follow in Montrepose Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
